Planned waste- technology is only meant to last till the next better? whatever? is released. Printers are a great example. The whole business is based on the razor blade strategy of selling the hardware cheap and hooking you on replacement cartridges. My Epson printer is now messaging me that the Epson cyan cartridge I just installed is not an actual Epson cartridge. After two trips to Staples and a phone call to Epson I replaced the correct Epson cartridge with a new one. Same message. So now the printer has to be replaced and the whole wasteful and unsustainable process starts all over again.
